Complications
Complications are situations that disrupt the main plot and prevent characters from continuing to accomplish their goals.
Mrs. Pearce: "If you please, sir, the trouble's beginning already. Theres a dustman downstairs, Alfred Doolittle, wants to see you. He says you have his daughter here" (Shaw 51, Act II).
Higgins and Colonel Pickering believed that nobody would wonder where Eliza was once she moved in with them. They are surprised that her father has shown up at Higgins's front door. Henry and Pickering had to stop thinking about Eliza's lessons to talk to Mr. Doolittle. This complication was resolved when Higgins paid Mr. Doolittle five pounds for Eliza.
