Protagonist
The protagonist is the principal character in a literary work. This character experiences a transition that reshapes his/her beliefs. Without the protagonist, there would be no story, but the protagonist does not have to be flawless.
Professor Henry Higgins is the protagonist in Pygmalion because he is the artist that makes Eliza more independent. He first treats Eliza like dirt beneath his feet, but once he sees what Eliza is capable of becoming, he grows to understand that looks and accents do not define a person's soul.
